Paeonia lactiflora

Peony – blooming queen of every garden

Means for me beautiful, sweetly fragrant, and wonderful, huge flowers in unique colors. They bloom from May to June, and later, thanks to strong, dark green leaves, make a beautiful background for other flowers.

Peonies are quite easy to grow and very spectacular. Choose the place where you want to grow them in the next years (it can be even dozens of years in one place), because they do not like replanting. To flower well, they need a minimum of 6 hours of uninterrupted bright daylight. They can grow in virtually almost any moist, but well-drained soil.
When planting, the depth at which we place the plant is extremely important, and it should be about 5 cm. When planted too shallow or too deep, the plant will not bloom. Remember to keep spacing about 80-100 cm between them – peonies are growing strongly and they need spaces to grow.
In the spring, in the period of potential night frosts, the plants should be covered so as not to expose the flower buds to damage. Varieties with full, heavy flowers may need support to keep their heads up.
Peonies are a wonderful decoration of every garden, and cut flowers can decorate the interior for almost a week.
To remember: Peonies do not like transplanting, so you have to choose a place where they can stay for years to come (sunny to semi-shadow). Plant them about 3-5 cm deeper than they grow in a container. Remember about regular irrigation. They usually bloom in the 2nd or the 3rd year after planting.
